For many people, summer is the perfect time to take a vacation. As a teacher by profession, I try to take full advantage of my summer vacation by booking at least one international trip and several short road trips every year.

Living in New York City, I have an overwhelming number of destination options to choose from for a quick getaway. With so many options and a limited amount of time, I do not like to spend too much of my time planning; I like to book something easy and straightforward, and booking with Expedia offers ease, flexibility, and savings.

Booking with Expedia Add-On Advantage

The hardest part of the booking process was deciding where to go, but once my boyfriend and I made the decision to travel to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the rest was easy. We chose to use Expedia’s new Add-On Advantage Program to book our trip. Expedia Add-On Advantage takes the pressure off planning and paying for your entire trip all at once.

After choosing Cape Cod as our destination, we went to Expedia and immediately booked a rental car to make the trip. After booking the car, we unlocked Add-On Advantage hotel deals, which offered steep discounts on hotels throughout Cape Cod.

We settled on staying at the Town N Country Family Resort in West Yarmouth. We chose it based on the price, location, rating, and amenities they offered. We found the resort to be the perfect base for our three-day trip around the Cape.

What to Do in Cape Cod

Cape Cod, Massachusetts is a massive hook-shaped peninsula that stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular summer destination known for its scenic views, seafood, laid-back lifestyle, and beautiful beaches.

With only three days to explore the large peninsula, we were not able to squeeze in everything that we wanted to do, however, we did get to explore the central region of the Cape.

Since Cape Cod is surrounded by water, it is a must to spend some time on a boat!

A great and affordable way to get out on the water is by taking a party fishing boat. After doing some research, we decided to take a half-day fishing trip with Helen H Deep Sea Fishing. The trip that we took departed from Hyannis and brought us out into the Nantucket Sound where we were able to fish for Porgy and Seabass.

In addition to providing a ride to the Nantucket Sound, the company also provided fishing rods and cleaned and gutted our fish. A party fishing boat is a great option for couples, friends, and families, and it is perfect for the expert or novice fisherman.

chapin memorial beach cape cod

Cape Cod is full of beaches to the north, the south, the east, and the west. If you happen to be in the Dennis area, pay a trip over to Chapin Memorial Beach, which faces the Cape Cod Bay. This beach, with its clear water and long stretches of white sand, is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Hyannis Cape Cod

Cape Cod is full of quaint little towns yearning to be explored. Pay a visit to the town of Hyannis and walk down Main Street making sure to pop into the little mom and pop shops along the way.

If you are looking for a Cape Cod sweatshirt, pay a visit to Cape Cod Sweat & Tee Outlet. The store sells a large variety of Cape Cod sweatshirts at a low price.

Sankaty Lighthouse Nantucket

The islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are both popular day-trip destinations for people visiting Cape Cod. With only a few days to check out the Cape, we opted to visit Nantucket, the smaller of the two islands.

This preppy little island is great for bike riding, dining, and spending lazy days on the beach.

What to Eat in Cape Cod

During my first night in Cape Cod, I had dinner at the Sesuit Harbor Cafe.  This popular BYOB cash-only outdoor cafe is known for its lobster rolls and fresh seafood. Even on a weekday evening, prepare for waits up to an hour. Make sure to visit during sunset and grab a seat by the water to watch the boats come in.

Katies Ice Cream Cape Cod

There are a large number of amazing ice cream shops in Cape Cod. I decided to check out Katie’s Homemade Ice Cream in the town of Hyannis.

Katie’s uses local farm ingredients in their soft serve ice cream. They have classic flavors like Cookie Dough and Oreo and locally-named flavors like the Cape Cod Sand and the Cape Cod Mud. I chose one of my favorite flavors, Rum Raisin, and it definitely was one of the best ice creams I have had to date.

Yarmouth House Restaurant

Another great place to check out on the Cape is Yarmouth House Restaurant. Despite having a long list of restaurants that I wanted to try before visiting Cape Cod, I settled on this one out of convenience.

From the outside, this restaurant doesn’t look like much, but once you step inside, you’ll love the decor. Skip the Black Angus Prime Rib and go for the Chicken Marsala with a glass of wine or a handcrafted cocktail. Don’t skip dessert – the Apple Crisp is worth every penny.

Overall, I found visiting the Cape to be a very enjoyable experience, and booking my car and hotel with Expedia made the trip so much easier.

Unfortunately, I came to the realization that three days was not nearly enough to explore everything that the peninsula had to offer, especially since we squeezed a day trip to Nantucket in there. I definitely will have to return to visit other areas such as Provincetown, Falmouth, Wellfleet, Chatham, and Orleans.
