Hostel Ruthensteiner  After leaving Salzburg, Austria, I traveled to Vienna for one week to explore the city which people kept telling me was full of beauty, history, and culture. Unfortunately at the beginning of my stay in the city, I was under the weather and ended up spending a few days locked away in a hotel room on the outskirts of town only leaving my room to get something to eat.

As the week came to an end and my condition improved, I wanted to move to a more central location in the city to try to fit in as much sightseeing as I could in the short time that I had left. I chose to stay at Hostel Ruthensteiner, a hostel that had both a central location in the city and had high ratings online.

Dorm Room, Hostel Ruthensteiner

One thing that I really loved about Hostel Ruthensteiner was how spacious the rooms were. I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm and I was quite comfortable. The room was clean, peaceful, and had a very feminine artistic touch. It was equipped with lockers, personal reading lamps, a table, extra bedding, hangers, and plenty of outlets. I felt like it was a home-away-from-home.

The Property: Gardens & Art

Hostel Ruthensteiner Garden

A garden in the backyard of the hostel

Two of my favorite things about Hostel Ruthensteiner were the gardens and the art, which I first fell in love with on their website, which does not do it justice. In the rear of the hostel, there are two lovely little gardens where guest can relax, converse, and eat. It is very apparent that the gardens are well cared for and looked after by the staff.

In addition to the beautiful gardens, I fell in love with the magnificent artwork all around the hostel. Art is a prominent part of Vienna’s culture and the hostel reflects an understanding of the culture by featuring various pieces of art from both domestic and international artists.

Hostel Ruthensteiner Breakfast

Hostel Ruthensteiner does its best to try to make guests feel at home during their stay by providing a number of facilities and amenities. In addition to a laundry room on-site (with soap included), there is the option to have a small continental breakfast everyday, a small bar inside the hostel with a daily happy hour, a full kitchen for guest use, and there are bikes and iPads available to rent.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It was centrally located, clean, charming, quiet, and I found it very easy to meet people. The staff is extremely friendly and works hard to ensure that all guests are happy. Even though I generally lean towards staying in apartment rentals these days, I would definitely stay at Hostel Ruthensteiner again during a trip to Vienna.

Location: Hostel Ruthensteiner is located at Robert Hamerlinggasse 24, A-1150, a short walk from Vienna’s Westbahnhof train station.
